This exquisite Antique Burmese offering vessel, standing 76 cm tall with a diameter of 31 cm, is a remarkable example of Shan (Tai Yai) craftsmanship from Burma (Myanmar) dating back to the late 19th or early 20th century. Made from wood and weighing 4 kg, this piece showcases the skillful artistry typical of the Shan ethnic group, known for their intricate carvings and distinctive forms.

Offering vessels hold significant cultural and spiritual importance in Burmese traditions, often used in rituals to pay homage to spirits and ancestors. The elegant, tiered design of this vessel, characterized by its rounded body and slender spire, symbolizes the connection between the earthly and the divine. The various layers reflect the spiritual journey, with the uppermost spire representing a pinnacle of attainment.

Burma, with its rich tapestry of ethnicities and histories, has been influenced by diverse spiritual practices, particularly Buddhism, which plays a central role in the society. The Shan, with their unique beliefs and customs, contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of the country.

Owning this antique offering vessel not only brings a piece of history into your space but also serves as a beautiful reminder of Burmese traditions and the rich heritage of the Shan people.
