Description

This Antique Shan Buddha hailing from Burma (Myanmar) is a remarkable representation of the Shan (Tai Yai) style, dating back to the 16th century. Standing at 75.5 cm in height and crafted from wood, it is elegantly gilt with 24-karat gold leaf, exuding a sense of reverence and artistry that is characteristic of traditional Burmese craftsmanship.

The Shan people, residing mainly in the eastern regions of Myanmar, have a rich cultural history influenced by Buddhism. Their artistry often reflects both local traditions and the broader Theravada Buddhist aesthetics, embodying harmony and tranquility. The intricate details of this statue showcase the skilled workmanship that has been passed down through generations.

This particular Buddha depicts a serene expression, symbolizing peace and enlightenment. The posture is noteworthy, and the Buddha's hand position signifies the Bhumisparsha mudra, representing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called upon the Earth to witness his journey. This mudra is one of the most significant in Buddhist iconography, symbolizing the overcoming of temptation and the importance of grounding oneself in wisdom.

With a weight of 10.9 kg and a width of 39 cm, this statue serves not only as a decorative piece but also as a spiritual reminder of the principles of mindfulness and the quest for inner peace. It captures the essence of Burmese spirituality and artistic legacy, making it a treasured addition to any collection or a meaningful gift.
