Description

This exquisite antique Thai bronze Rattanakosin Buddha stands at 40.6 cm tall and is adorned with 24-karat gold gilding, beautifully reflecting the craftsmanship of 19th-century Thailand. The Rattanakosin style, which flourished during the late Ayutthaya period and into the early Bangkok era, is characterized by refined elegance and intricate detailing, embodying the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Thailand.

The statue depicts the iconic Bhumisparsha gesture, where the Buddha touches the earth with his right hand while seated in meditation. This mudra symbolizes the moment of enlightenment, signifying the Buddha's resistance against the challenges during his spiritual quest.

Originating from Thailand, this statue represents a significant period in Thai history, known for the unification of various cultural influences, including those from neighboring regions and the revival of traditional Buddhist art. The Rattanakosin period saw an artistic renaissance marked by serene facial expressions, elaborate ornamentation, and a focus on the divine.

The meticulous attention to detail in this statue, combined with its historical significance, makes it a remarkable example of Thailand’s devotional art. This piece not only serves as a cultural artifact but also as a symbol of spiritual wisdom and tranquility.
