Description

This large antique Stucco Buddha head, originating from Burma (Myanmar), dates back to the 19th century and stands at an impressive height of 81.5 cm, including its steel base. The Buddha head itself measures 50 cm in height and 35 cm in width, crafted from stucco, a traditional masonry stone material that offers both historical significance and artistic charm. Weighing 38.7 kg, the sculpture reflects the intricate artistry and spiritual devotion of the era.

The style, identified as Ava, is characteristic of the cultural and artistic movements during the period of the Ava Kingdom, which flourished in central Burma from the 14th to the 18th centuries. This period is marked by significant advancements in the craftsmanship and aesthetic refinement of Buddhist art, and this piece epitomizes those qualities with its serene expression and detailed features.

The sculpture's design serves not only as a decorative element but also as a symbol of peace and enlightenment in Buddhist culture. The removable head is affixed to the base with a pin and screw thread, demonstrating both practicality and an understanding of form and function in design. As a representation of Burmese heritage, this statue invites contemplation and appreciation for the rich history and spiritual tradition embedded within its craftsmanship.
