Description

This large bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara stands at an impressive height of 136.4 cm and features intricate craftsmanship characteristic of mid-20th century Chinese artistry. Avalokiteshvara, known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, embodies the ideal of selfless love and mercy. The statue is often revered in Buddhist traditions, symbolizing the compassionate actions toward all sentient beings.

The design of the statue showcases Avalokiteshvara adorned with multiple arms and heads, each symbolizing the capability to assist many beings simultaneously, reflecting the boundless nature of compassion. The presence of the Namaskara mudra, with hands positioned in a gesture of respectful greeting, enhances the statue's spiritual significance, conveying humility and reverence.

China has a rich history of Buddhist art, dating back over a millennium, where various influences from indigenous beliefs and neighboring cultures have shaped the representation of divine figures. The intricate detailing and use of bronze indicate the skill and devotion of artisans during this time, making this statue not only a cultural artifact but also a testament to the enduring nature of compassion in human experience.

This Avalokiteshvara statue serves as both a striking decorative piece and a profound reminder of the virtues of empathy and kindness, making it a valuable addition to any collection or spiritual space.
