Description

This special antique bronze Burmese Buddha statue, dating back to the 16th century, stands at 48.5 cm tall and weighs 5.63 kg. With a few visible damages, consistent with its age, it retains a striking presence and is overall in good condition. Aged traces of 24-karat gilding enhance its allure, while the statue’s serene expression invites contemplation.

Originating from Myanmar, known historically as Burma, this statue reflects the rich artistic heritage of the Ava period, an era marked by the flourishing of Buddhist art and culture. The Ava style is characterized by graceful lines and intricate details, often emphasizing the spiritual connection between the figure and the viewer.

The statue embodies the Varada mudra, which represents compassion and the granting of wishes. This gesture signifies the Buddha's benevolence towards all beings. The elaborate headdress and the ornate base underscore the significance of the Buddha in Burmese culture, where such depictions are central to spiritual practices and artistic expression.

This artifact not only serves as a remarkable piece of decorative art but also as a cherished symbol of faith and a deep-rooted cultural legacy from Myanmar, resonating with the historical ties of Buddhism throughout the region.
