  • Provenance: Maître Guy Loudmer, Paris, 26 June 1995, lot 61. A private collection in France, acquired from the above. This sculpture is accompanied by a copy of a certificate of authenticity, written and signed by Guy Loudmer, no. 1319, dated July 24, 1995, confirming the above provenance, attached to an old photograph of the statue. Guy Loudmer (who died in 2019) was a prominent French auctioneer, nicknamed the 'Patton' of the French Compagnie des Commissaires-Priseurs.

This exceptional antique bronze statue of Vishnu hails from the 16th century, crafted in the historically rich region of Orissa in Eastern India. Standing at a height of 76.5 cm and weighing an impressive 33.6 kg, the statue is solidly cast, reflecting the durability and artistry typical of the era. The statue is beautifully detailed, featuring solid silver inlaid eyes that enhance its expressiveness.

Vishnu, a principal deity in Hinduism, embodies the principles of protection and preservation of the universe. Often depicted with four hands, Vishnu holds a conch shell, a discus, a mace, and a lotus—symbols of his divine qualities and abilities. This particular representation provides a tangible connection to the spiritual significance attributed to Vishnu within Hindu traditions.

Previously part of a collection owned by prominent French auctioneer Guy Loudmer, it comes with a certificate of authenticity detailing its origins.
