This exceptional 12th-century Pagan votive tablet, originating from Burma (Myanmar), showcases the artistic brilliance and spiritual heritage of the Bagan period. Measuring 19.3 cm in height, 14.3 cm in width, and 6.6 cm in depth, this terracotta piece remains in remarkably good condition, weighing 1.12 kg.

The votive tablet serves as a devotional object, typically created to honor the Buddha and commemorate significant teachings. The intricate design features a serene representation of the Buddha in meditation, flanked by bell motifs, which symbolize enlightenment and the sacred sounds of Buddhist teachings.

During the Bagan period, which lasted from the 9th to 13th centuries, Myanmar witnessed a flourishing of Buddhist art and architecture. The region became a center for the construction of thousands of pagodas and temples, enriching its cultural and religious landscape. Artisans skillfully crafted votive tablets like this one, reflecting the prevailing spiritual practices and beliefs of the time.

This votive tablet not only serves as a spiritual artifact but also as a historical testament to the enduring legacy of Burmese Buddhism and its artistic expressions. Its significance lies in both its aesthetic qualities and its cultural importance, making it a captivating addition to any collection of historical art.
