Description

This exquisite antique bronze statue of the Mandalay Buddha originates from Burma (Myanmar) and dates back to the 19th century. Standing at 51.2 cm in height and weighing 19 kg, this imposing figure is not only a representation of Buddhist artistry but also a significant cultural artifact.

The Mandalay style is characterized by detailed craftsmanship, and this statue is beautifully gilded with 24-karat gold, reflecting the heights of Burmese metalwork. Notably, the statue features inlaid eyes, which enhance the serene expression and provide a sense of lifelike presence. The elegant posture of the Buddha is depicted according to the Bhumisparsha mudra, symbolizing the moment of Enlightenment when the Buddha calls the earth to witness his attainment of Nirvana.

Burma has a rich history of Buddhist art, influenced over centuries by various dynasties and cultural exchanges. The Mandalay period stands out for its distinctive artistic details and revered religious significance, making such pieces highly sought after by collectors and spiritual practitioners alike. This statue not only serves as a stunning decorative piece but also as a meaningful representation of faith, devotion, and the artistic heritage of Myanmar.
