Description

This antique bronze Thai Buddha statue, standing at 37.7 cm tall, is a remarkable representation of Southeast Asian artistry from the late 18th century. Crafted from bronze and gilded with 24 karat gold, the statue showcases intricate craftsmanship and an elegant finish that speak to its historical significance. Measuring 26 cm in width and 12.9 cm in depth, it weighs 5.73 kg, reflecting not only the skill of its maker but also the influence of Buddhist iconography prevalent in Thailand.

The statue is depicted in the Bhumisparsha mudra, which signifies the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, traditionally seen as a gesture of calling the earth to witness his attainment of Buddhahood. This historical context adds depth to its aesthetic appeal, connecting it to the spiritual journey of Buddhism.

Originating from Thailand, a country with a rich tapestry of Buddhist traditions, this statue embodies the artistic styles that flourished during the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods. The blend of gold and bronze not only enhances its visual allure but also signifies the reverence for the Buddha within Thai culture. This piece serves as a significant spiritual artifact, capturing centuries of devotion and the artistic evolution of Buddhist sculpture in the region.
