Description

This exquisite antique bronze Thai Lanna Buddha statue stands at 85.5 cm in height, showcasing the artistry from the late 18th to early 19th century. Crafted from bronze and adorned with traces of 24-karat gilding, this piece reflects the intricate craftsmanship synonymous with the Lanna Kingdom, located in northern Thailand.

The Lanna style is characterized by its unique features, combining influences from both Thai and Burmese art traditions. This statue's serene expression and detailed ornamentation are emblematic of the devotion and artistry prevalent in the region during this period. The Buddha is depicted in a seated position, indicative of calmness and enlightenment, contributing to the spiritual ambiance it offers.

The specific mudra displayed is Bhumisparsha, or "Earth Touching," which signifies the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment when he called upon the earth to bear witness to his knowledge. This powerful gesture reinforces the statue's significance as a symbol of meditation and spiritual awakening.

Thailand, with its rich Buddhist heritage, has long been a bastion of artistic expression through religious sculptures. This Buddha statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also as a testament to the enduring cultural and spiritual legacy of Buddhism in Thai history. Its detailed craftsmanship and historical significance make it a cherished addition to any collection.
