Description

This antique bronze Buddha statue, hailing from Thailand and standing at 56.8 cm tall, exemplifies the artistry of the Rattanakosin period, dating back to the 19th century. Crafted from bronze and gilded with 24-karat gold, this piece showcases intricate detailing and craftsmanship characteristic of Thai artisans of that era.

The Rattanakosin style emerged following the establishment of Bangkok as Thailand's capital in 1782, reflecting a blend of traditional Khmer influence and the evolving Thai artistic expression. The graceful posture of the statue, with its elegant robes and detailed ornaments, captures the spiritual significance of the Buddha, symbolizing enlightenment and serenity.

Holding an important place in Thai culture and religious practices, this piece represents the meditation and tranquility often associated with Buddhism. The Abhaya mudra, depicted here, conveys a gesture of fearlessness and protection, emphasizing the Buddha's role in providing reassurance.

Throughout Thailand's rich history, such statues have been venerated in temples and homes, serving as focal points for prayer and meditation. This remarkable statue not only embodies profound spiritual meaning but also stands as a testament to the enduring craftsmanship of Thai history, offering a piece of the past to contemporary collectors and admirers alike. With a weight of 4.35 kg, this striking artifact is both a visual and spiritual centerpiece.
