Description

This exquisite Antique Burmese Buddha statue, originating from Burma (now known as Myanmar), dates back to the 19th century and stands at a height of 15.2 cm. Crafted from lacquerware, this statue is expertly gilded with 24-karat gold, showcasing the rich artistic tradition of Burmese artisans. The statue’s intricate details, including the serene expression and elegant attire, reflect the historical significance of Buddhism in Myanmar, where it has greatly influenced art and culture.

The depicted posture is known as Bhumisparsha, or the "earth-touching" mudra, representing the moment of Buddha's enlightenment. In this gesture, the Buddha touches the earth with his right hand, symbolizing his call upon the earth as a witness to his attainment of enlightenment, signifying stability and truth.

Buddhism has been a cornerstone of Burmese identity for centuries, playing an essential role in shaping the country’s spiritual and cultural landscape. The artistry of the statue not only serves as religious devotion but also as a testament to the exceptional craftsmanship of the period.

Weighing approximately 1.4 kg, this statue is a remarkable piece that not only enhances any space with its spiritual presence but also serves as a historical artifact, connecting the observer to a timeless legacy of faith and artistry in Myanmar.
