Description

This antique Burmese sandstone Buddha statue, standing at 60.2 cm tall and weighing 26.35 kg, showcases the rich artistic tradition of Myanmar (Burma) from the 17th to 18th century. Carved from sandstone, it features traces of 24 karat gold, enhancing its historical value and aesthetic appeal.

The Ava style, recognizable by its serene posture and gentle expression, reflects the cultural synthesis of different influences in Burmese Buddhist art. Ava, known as the last royal capital of Myanmar, was a hub of artistic innovation, and this statue exemplifies that legacy. The Bhumisparsha mudra, depicted in this statue, represents the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, where he calls the earth to witness his attainment of knowledge. This gesture is significant in Buddhist practice, symbolizing the triumph over temptation and the realization of truth.

Myanmar's history is deeply intertwined with Buddhism, and this statue serves as a testament to the spiritual devotion and craftsmanship that characterized the era. It is not just a work of art; it embodies centuries of belief and tradition, making it a remarkable addition to any collection. With its intricate details and historical significance, this Buddha statue is a true reflection of Myanmar's cultural heritage.
