This exquisite antique marble Buddha statue from Burma, dating back to the 18th century, exemplifies the rich cultural heritage of Myanmar. With a height of 45 cm and a weight of 17.5 kg, this statue highlights the intricacies of Burmese craftsmanship, featuring detailed carvings and gilding with 24 karat gold, likely regilded in the 19th or early 20th century.

The statue is presented in the Ava style, characterized by its serene expression and seated posture. This style represents transitional influences in Burmese artistry during the Ava Kingdom period, known for its intricate wooden and stone sculptures. The Buddha’s attire, adorned in gold, signifies the nobility and dignity associated with Buddhist iconography.

The statue embodies the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture of spiritual awakening and enlightenment. This particular gesture captures the moment when the Buddha attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree, symbolizing the conquest of ignorance and the call for awareness in the face of suffering.

Originating from a country steeped in Buddhist tradition, this statue stands as a testament to the enduring impact of Buddhism in Myanmar's history. It serves not only as a religious symbol but also as a reflection of the artistic evolution found in Burmese culture. This remarkable piece is an ideal addition for collectors and enthusiasts of Asian art, offering a glimpse into the profound history and meaning behind its creation.
