Description

This Antique Thai silver Buddha statue, measuring 13.8 cm in height, 8.5 cm in width, and 5.7 cm deep, is a remarkable representation of Thai artistry from the 18th century. Crafted from silver, this statue harmoniously blends traditional design with a spiritual essence, embodying the Buddhist beliefs that have profoundly influenced Thailand’s culture and identity.

The statue is adorned with intricate details, featuring a serene expression and a dignified posture, commonly associated with the Bhumisparsha mudra—often interpreted as “the earth touching” gesture. This mudra symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the earth to witness his right to attain Nirvana.

Originating from Thailand, where Buddhism has flourished for centuries, this piece reflects the nation’s devotion to the religion, as well as the skilled craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations. The evolution of Thai Buddhism, marked by influences from neighboring cultures, has resulted in a diverse array of artistic expressions that highlight both spiritual and cultural narratives.
