Description

This Antique Wooden Burmese Shan Buddha, originating from Myanmar (Burma), stands at a graceful height of 23.8 cm. Crafted in the 19th century, this statue reflects the rich heritage of Burmese art and Buddhist iconography. Gilded with 24-karat gold, it embodies a sense of reverence and spirituality, making it a prized possession for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Shan style, also known as Tai Yai, emphasizes fluid lines and an intricate representation of form and expression, distinguishing it from other regional styles. This particular statue captures the essence of serenity, as it depicts the Buddha in a posture that signifies peace and meditation.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, commonly associated with the Buddha's enlightenment, indicates a moment of profound realization and calling the Earth to witness. This gesture symbolizes steadfastness and spiritual awakening, making the statue not just an artistic expression but also a significant emblem of Buddhist teachings.

Myanmar has a long-standing history intertwined with Buddhism, deeply influencing its culture, art, and architecture. This figurine serves as a tangible connection to that legacy, offering not just aesthetic value, but also a glimpse into the spiritual journey and historical context of a civilization that has cherished these ideals for centuries. Weighing 378 grams and measuring 11.9 cm wide and 6.3 cm deep, this beautiful artifact is a reminder of the enduring power and grace of Buddhist traditions.
