Description

This stunning antique wooden Burmese Shan Buddha statue, standing at 52.5 cm tall, embodies the rich cultural heritage of Myanmar (Burma). Crafted during the early 19th century, the statue showcases exquisite artistry, adorned with 24-karat gold gilding, which enhances its spiritual significance and visual appeal.

Representing the Shan style, known for its elegance and serene expressions, this piece reflects the artistic traditions of the Shan people, an ethnic group with deep roots in Myanmar's history. The Shan style is characterized by smooth lines and a balanced posture, both of which are evident in this statue's graceful depiction.

The featured Bhumisparsha mudra, signifying the moment of enlightenment, adds a layer of meaning, illustrating the Buddha's path to spiritual awakening. This gesture, formed by the Buddha’s right hand touching the earth, emphasizes connection and grounding, pivotal aspects in Buddhism.

Additionally, the decorative pedestal of the statue, with its intricate layering in colors, symbolizes the union of the spiritual and physical realms, reinforcing its sacred role in Buddhist practice. As a historical artifact from Burma, this statue not only represents artistic excellence but also encapsulates the teachings and philosophy of Buddhism that have shaped the cultural landscape of the region.
