Description

This antique wooden Mandalay Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands at 75 cm tall and embodies the rich artistic heritage of the region. Crafted in the 19th century, the statue showcases the distinct Mandalay style known for its elegant proportions and serene expressions that reflect spiritual tranquility.

The statue is adorned with intricate Burmese inscriptions on the base, likely denoting the name of its donor, adding a layer of historical significance and personal connection to its past. The artistically rendered robes, with their delicate detailing and use of gold leaf, not only highlight the skill of the craftsman but also reflect the importance of the Buddha's image in Burmese culture.

Mandalay, once the royal capital of Myanmar, has been a significant hub for Buddhist art and sculpture, serving as a center for traditional craftsmanship. Here, artisans have dedicated generations to creating sacred images that serve both decorative and devotional purposes.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, represented by the right hand reaching towards the earth, symbolizes the moment of enlightenment, marking the Buddha’s victory over temptation and ignorance. This gesture reinforces the purpose of the Buddha statue as a spiritual guide, encouraging meditation and reflection among its viewers. This exquisite piece is not merely a decoration; it is a bridge to the historical and spiritual legacy of Buddhism in Myanmar.
