Description

This exquisite antique wooden Mandalay Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar), stands at a height of 49.3 cm and exemplifies the artistry of the 19th century. Crafted from wood and delicately gilded with 24 karat gold, this statue showcases the intricate detailing characteristic of the Mandalay style, known for its rich embellishments and expressive features.

Mandalay, a city located in the heart of Myanmar, has long been recognized as a center for skilled artisans and Buddhist culture. The Mandalay style emerged during the Konbaung Dynasty and reflects the influence of both traditional Burmese and more contemporary artistic elements. This era is marked by a revival of traditional craft techniques and an emphasis on elaborate decoration, as seen in the flowing robes and serene facial expression of this statue.

The statue measures 20.8 cm in width and 10.3 cm in depth, with a total weight of 2.12 kg, making it a substantial piece suitable for both display and introspection. Each curve and contour has been thoughtfully sculpted to embody the values of peace and enlightenment inherent in Buddhist philosophy. This remarkable artifact not only serves as a captivating decoration but also as a tribute to the rich religious and cultural history of Burma.
