Standing at 41.9 cm in height, the statue is beautifully gilded with 24-karat gold, enhancing its presence and allure. In Buddhist iconography, the figure’s pose reflects the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture signifying the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the earth to witness his attainment of Nirvana. This act symbolizes spiritual awakening and the triumph over earthly desires.

Burma has a long history of Buddhist practice, which is vividly expressed in its art. The Mandalay period is renowned for producing countless masterpieces, where artisans like those who crafted this statue dedicated themselves to creating works that not only served as spiritual symbols but also as exquisite art forms.
