Description

This antique wooden Thai Buddha statue, measuring 33.8 cm in height and dating back to the early 19th century, is a remarkable representation of traditional Thai craftsmanship. Carved from wood and partly gilded with 24-karat gold, this piece reflects the artistry and devotion integral to Buddhist culture in Thailand. The statue features a serene and composed expression, a hallmark of Buddhist iconography, emphasizing inner peace and enlightenment.

The Bhumisparsha mudra, depicted here, is particularly significant, symbolizing the moment when Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. This gesture, which translates to "touching the earth," reflects themes of grounding and spiritual awakening.

Originating from Thailand, a country rich in Buddhist tradition, this statue serves as a tangible link to the past. The craftsmanship reflects a time when wood sculpture was a revered art form, often used in temples and homes to inspire and elevate the spiritual atmosphere. With a width of 11.7 cm and a depth of 6.3 cm, this statue not only serves as an aesthetic piece but also as an embodiment of cultural history and religious significance.

Weighing 582 grams, this Buddha statue is not merely a decorative item; it invites contemplation and serves as a reminder of the enduring values of mindfulness and compassion inherent in the Buddhist faith.
