Description

This antique wooden Thai Lanna Buddha statue, standing at 33.4 cm tall, exemplifies the rich artistic heritage of Thailand, specifically from the Lanna region known for its distinctive Buddhist art. Originating from the 19th century, this statue showcases traditional craftsmanship with intricate details, emphasizing the serenity associated with Buddhist iconography.

Crafted from wood and gilded with 24 karat gold, the statue radiates both elegance and reverence. The pedestal, made of pottery, supports the figure in a seated position, embodying a sense of peace and stability. The dimensions of 19.3 cm in width and 12.5 cm in depth further enhance its presence, making it a captivating piece for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

In Buddhist tradition, the Bhumisparsha mudra depicted here symbolizes the moment of the Buddha’s enlightenment, where he calls the earth to witness his realization. This gesture signifies grounding, the attainment of wisdom, and a connection to the spiritual realm, making it particularly meaningful in the practice of meditation and devotion.

Thailand's history is deeply intertwined with Buddhism, which serves as both a cultural and spiritual foundation for its people. The Lanna kingdom, flourishing between the 13th and 18th centuries, left a profound influence on the country's artistic expressions, making this statue a significant representation of that heritage. Weighing 2.04 kg, this piece is not just a decorative object but a profound symbol of faith and history.
