Description

This large bronze standing Buddha statue is a fine example of the Sukhothai style, emerging from Thailand and dating back to the early 20th century. Standing at an impressive height of 139 cm, this statue captures the serene grace that characterizes Sukhothai art, known for its idealized proportions and intricate details. The statue is 40 cm wide and 39 cm deep, making it a striking centerpiece for any collection or space.

The Sukhothai period, which thrived from the 13th to 15th centuries, is heralded as the dawn of Thai civilization, marking the establishment of Buddhism as the predominant religion. This statue reflects that rich history, embodying the principles of tranquility and wisdom inherent in Buddhist teachings.

Sculpted from bronze, the statue showcases the artistic expertise of its era, with flowing lines that convey movement and a sense of calm. The Buddha’s expression, along with the delicate design elements, invites contemplation and reverence. Although the specific mudra is not identified in the description, the Vitarka mudra often signifies the teaching aspect of Buddha, emphasizing the importance of sharing wisdom.

With a weight of 36.4 kg, this statue is not only a historical artifact but also a stunning work of art that honors Thailand's cultural heritage. Its presence in a modern setting serves as a bridge to understanding the profound traditions of Buddhism and Thai artistry.
