Description

This exquisite old bronze Medicine Buddha statue, originating from Nepal, stands at a height of 22.1 cm and features intricate fire gilding with 24-karat gold, enhancing its spiritual and aesthetic appeal. Dating back to the middle of the 20th century, this piece exemplifies the rich tradition of Buddhist art that has flourished in Nepal, a country known for its deep-rooted spiritual culture and craftsmanship.

The Medicine Buddha, or Bhaisajyaguru, is revered in Mahayana Buddhism as the healer of suffering and the source of medical knowledge. The posture and details of the statue signify compassion and healing; he holds a healing herb in his right hand while his left hand rests in the gesture of meditation. This representation underscores his role as a guide towards physical and spiritual well-being.

Crafted from bronze, this high-quality statue serves not only as a decorative piece but also as a meditative focal point. The detailed lotus base symbolizes purity and enlightenment, elements central to Buddhist philosophy and practice.

Nepal’s art is steeped in historical significance, influenced by various cultures and epochs. The Medicine Buddha statue thus embodies both an artistic tradition and a spiritual essence, making it a meaningful addition to any collection or space dedicated to tranquility and healing.
