Description

This exquisite Old Bronze Thai U-Thong Buddha statue stands at an impressive height of 70.5 cm and weighs 29.95 kg. Crafted in the early 20th century, this piece belongs to the U-Thong style, known for its emphasis on serene expressions and intricate details, which reflect the cultural heritage of Thailand.

The statue's rich bronze material showcases traces of lacquer and original 24-karat gold, highlighting the craftsmanship that has endured through the years. The U-Thong style originated in the central region of Thailand, primarily during the 14th to 16th centuries, marking a significant period in Thai artistic development and religious expression. This style represents a blend of local beliefs and influences from neighboring cultures, contributing to its distinctive character.

The Dhyana mudra depicted in this statue signifies meditation and tranquility, inviting a deeper connection with spiritual practice. The calm demeanor of the Buddha offers a sense of peace, making it an ideal centerpiece for meditation spaces or as a conversation starter in any collection.

Thailand has a long history of Buddhism, which has profoundly influenced its art and culture. This statue embodies that legacy, serving not only as a decorative item but also as a testament to the enduring significance of Buddhist practices in Thai life.
