Description

This exquisite wooden Buddha statue hails from Burma (Myanmar) and dates back to the early 20th century. Standing at 38 cm tall, this piece exemplifies the rich cultural heritage and spiritual significance of Buddhist art in the region. Traditionally crafted from wood, it boasts dimensions of 18.3 cm in width and 10.6 cm in depth, making it a substantial yet graceful addition to any collection.

The statue depicts the Buddha seated in meditation, symbolizing tranquility and enlightenment. Accompanied by the Bhumisparsha mudra, often referred to as the “earth-touching” gesture, the figure signifies the moment of Buddha’s enlightenment when he called upon the earth to bear witness to his spiritual awakening. This gesture expresses the themes of inner peace and the pursuit of knowledge, characteristics deeply embedded in Buddhist philosophy.

Burma's artistic culture is heavily influenced by both indigenous traditions and interactions with neighboring cultures, resulting in unique craftsmanship that incorporates local materials, styles, and spiritual motifs. The warm, weathered wood of this statue not only conveys aesthetic appeal but also reflects the passage of time, making it a meaningful artifact that resonates with both history and devotion. Owning such a piece not only enriches your space aesthetically but also connects you to the profound spiritual legacy of Buddhism.
