Description

This antique bronze statue of a Buddha, originating from Laos, dates back to the 17th-18th century. Standing at 69 cm tall, it represents the rich artistic heritage of the region, characterized by a profound reverence for Buddhism. The craftsmanship is apparent in the statue's details and is enhanced by traces of 24-karat gilding, signifying its historical significance and the value placed on spiritual art.

The statue is typically portrayed in a seated position, symbolizing meditation and enlightenment. The specific mudra, or hand gesture, identified here is the Bhumisparsha, which depicts the Buddha touching the earth. This gesture signifies the moment of enlightenment, where the Buddha calls upon the earth to witness his attainment of awakening, a key moment in Buddhist teachings.

Laos, a country famed for its scenic landscapes and deep spiritual traditions, has maintained a strong Buddhist culture throughout its history. The times during which this statue was created were marked by the construction of beautiful temples and a flourishing of artistic expression. This bronze Buddha not only serves as a decorative piece but also embodies a lasting connection to the spiritual journey and cultural legacy of Laos. Weighing 20 kg, its presence is both commanding and comforting, making it a significant addition to any collection of spiritual art.
