Description

This exceptional bronze statue of the Buddha, accompanied by two monks, is a significant artifact from Burma (Myanmar), dating back to the 16th-17th century. Crafted during the Ava period, this era is renowned for its refined artistic style, characterized by elegant proportions and serene expressions that capture the essence of Buddhist teachings.

The Buddha depicted here assumes the Bhumisparsha mudra, a symbolic gesture representing the moment of enlightenment and the calling of the Earth to witness his realization. This pose illustrates the Buddha’s triumph over temptation, signifying stability and grounding in the face of adversity. The attentive monks seated beside him reflect the cultural importance of monastic life in Buddhism and depict the role of the Sangha, or monastic community, in the transmission of spiritual wisdom.

The item’s dimensions—51.8 cm in height, 37 cm in width, and 32.5 cm in depth—further emphasize the craftsmanship involved in its creation. Its intricate detailing and original condition contribute to its rarity and special status in the realm of historical artifacts. This statue not only serves as a decorative piece but also as a profound representation of spiritual heritage, embodying the enduring legacy of Buddhism in Myanmar.

Accompanied by an Oxford Authentication TL-test report, this bronze statue stands as a testament to craftsmanship and historical significance in the world of art.
