Description

This impressive lavastone Buddha statue, standing at 220 cm tall and weighing approximately 3000 kg, is a remarkable piece originating from Indonesia. Carved by hand from a single large block of lavastone, this statue exudes artistry and craftsmanship of the middle 20th century. The material itself adds a unique texture, with parts of the statue now partly overgrown with moss, lending it a sense of history and connection to nature; this can be cleaned upon request.

The statue features the Dharmachakra mudra, a gesture symbolizing the turning of the wheel of Dharma. This mudra represents the teaching of the Buddha, marking the moment he shared his insights and wisdom with the world. The seated posture, combined with the intricate details of the statue, reflects the serene presence and deep-rooted significance of Buddhism in Indonesian culture.

Indonesia has a rich history of Buddhist art, influenced by various dynasties and cultures over the centuries. This statue is not only a decorative element but also resonates with spiritual meaning, serving as a reminder of peace and enlightenment. It is suitable for various settings, be it a garden, meditation space, or as a profound focal point in any collection.
