Description

This exquisite bronze Arakan Buddha statue, hailing from Burma (Myanmar), dates back to the Lemro period (1018–1430). Measuring 23.2 cm in height, it showcases remarkable craftsmanship characterized by Pyu and Pagan cultural influences, evident in its serene expression and detailed form.

The Arakan style is known for its distinctive representation of the Buddha, often reflecting a fusion of local artistic traditions with broader Buddhist themes. This statue, in particular, embodies the essence of tranquility and enlightenment, hallmarks of Buddhist art from this era.

In this piece, the Buddha is depicted in a sitting posture, indicative of contemplation and meditation, key elements of Buddhist practice. The condition of the statue is notably well-preserved, a rarity among bronze sculptures from this age, which adds to its historical significance and value. Weighing 1.18 kg, it serves not only as an artistic representation but also as a tangible connection to the region's spiritual heritage.

Burma has a long-standing history of Buddhist artistry, deeply intertwined with its cultural identity. The reverence for such artifacts has contributed to their creation and preservation through centuries, allowing this statue to remain a symbol of the enduring legacy of Buddhism in Southeast Asia.
