Common.description

This antique bronze Mandalay Buddha statue, originating from Burma (Myanmar) and dating back to the 19th century, is a remarkable piece of art that reflects the rich cultural heritage of the region. Standing at a height of 37.5 cm and weighing 9.1 kg, it showcases exquisite craftsmanship, with traces of 24-karat gilding adorned on its surface and inlaid eyes enhancing its serene expression.

Mandalay, a city revered for its deep ties to Buddhist traditions, serves as the backdrop for this exquisite statue, which represents the Bhumisparsha mudra—a gesture of the Buddha symbolizing enlightenment and the calling of the Earth to witness his path to awakening. The careful detailing of the draped robe adds a sense of fluidity and grace, characteristic of the Mandalay style, while the statue's striking features convey a profound sense of inner peace.

The statue not only serves as a spiritual icon but also as a window into the history of Burmese art, where such representations have played a vital role in the practice of Buddhism. This piece captures both the spiritual essence and the artistic traditions of its time, making it a timeless addition to any collection.
