Description

This antique Burmese marble Buddha statue, dating back to the 19th century, stands at 59.5 cm tall and exhibits exquisite craftsmanship characteristic of the Mandalay style. With traces of original lacquer and 24-karat gilding, this statue reflects the intricate artistry and spiritual significance of Buddhist iconography in Burma (Myanmar).

The Bhumisparsha mudra, represented by the Buddha's right hand touching the earth, symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when Siddhartha Gautama, the historical Buddha, called upon the earth to witness his spiritual awakening. This gesture is not only prominent in Buddhist art but also resonates deeply with the themes of truth and introspection.

Originating from Burma, a country with a rich cultural heritage that has seen the flourishing of Theravada Buddhism, this statue is a testament to the fusion of religious devotion and artistic expression. The Mandalay period, specifically, is renowned for its elaborate sculptures that capture the serenity and wisdom of the Buddha, making this piece a valuable addition to any collection.

Weighing 22.6 kg and measuring 32 cm in width and 19 cm in depth, this statue combines both beauty and historical significance. Each detail reflects the spiritual journey and devotion of artisans dedicated to preserving the essence of Buddhist teachings.
