Description

This Antique Mandalay Buddha, hailing from Burma (Myanmar) and dating back to the 19th century, embodies the rich artistic and spiritual heritage of the region. Standing at 50 cm and crafted from marble, the statue is elegantly goldplated with 24 karat gold, accentuated by intricate Burmese inscriptions that add to its historical significance.

The Mandalay style, characterized by its serene facial expressions and detailed ornamentation, reflects the late 19th-century revival of traditional Burmese craftsmanship. This statue represents the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture symbolizing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha reached under the Bodhi tree, calling the earth to witness his awakening.

Mandalay, once the capital of Burma, is renowned for its vibrant arts scene, including the production of exquisite Buddhist sculptures like this one. Throughout history, Myanmar has maintained a strong connection to Buddhism, evident in its numerous temples and monasteries, which have served as centers for spiritual learning and artistic expression.

Weighing 31.5 kg and measuring 42 cm in width, this statue is not only a stunning decorative piece but also a spiritual artifact that encapsulates the profound cultural and religious influences of Myanmar. It serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of Buddhism in the region, making it a meaningful addition to any collection.
