This exquisite antique wooden Buddha statue from Burma, dating back to the 18th century, exemplifies the rich artistic heritage of Southeast Asia. Measuring 41.5 cm in height, 20.5 cm in width, and 14.4 cm in depth, it is elegantly gilded with 24-karat gold, enhancing its intricate details and cultural significance.

Originating from the Shan (Tai Yai) region, this statue is a representation of spiritual reverence and artistry. The Shan style is characterized by its graceful proportions, detailed ornamental patterns, and a sense of calm, reflective serenity. This Buddha, seated on a lotus pedestal, embodies the core principles of Buddhism, symbolizing purity and enlightenment.

The statue's mudra, known as Bhumisparsha, depicts the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment, where he touches the earth as a witness to his truth. This powerful gesture signifies the overcoming of ignorance and the attainment of wisdom, central themes in Buddhist philosophy.

Burma, also known as Myanmar, has a long history of Buddhist tradition, encompassing various styles that reflect the country’s diverse cultural influences. This artifact not only serves as a remarkable piece of art but also as a conduit for understanding the spiritual journeys and practices of those who have venerated the Buddha for centuries. Owning this statue is akin to holding a piece of history that continues to inspire peace and introspection.
