Description

This exquisite antique wooden Thai Buddha statue dates back to the early 19th century, reflecting a rich cultural heritage synonymous with Thailand's Buddhist traditions. Standing at 11.8 cm tall and weighing 54 grams, it displays the refined artistry of the period, complete with traces of original 24-carat gilding, which adds to its historical significance and visual appeal.

The statue features the Bhumisparsha mudra, a gesture symbolizing the moment of the Buddha's enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, representing the calling of the earth to witness his enlightenment. This mudra holds profound meaning in Buddhist philosophy, symbolizing the resolve to attain liberation and the grounding force of spiritual awakening.

Crafted from wood, this piece stands out for its inscriptions on the base, providing additional historical context. The widths of 5.4 cm and depth of 4.5 cm make it an intimate yet impactful representation of Buddhist art.

Thailand, as a country deeply intertwined with Buddhism, has a long history of sculpting and creating artifacts reflecting spiritual themes and teachings. This statue embodies not only artistic mastery but also serves as a conduit for the meditation and teachings central to Buddhist practice, making it a treasured piece for collectors and spiritual seekers alike.
