Description

This exceptional 18th-century Thai terracotta Buddha is a remarkable artifact from the Ayutthaya period, a time noted for its unique artistic developments in Thailand. Measuring 68 cm in height, this statue is intricately lacquered and gilded with 24-karat gold, showcasing the skilled craftsmanship of its era.

Terracotta statues from Ayutthaya are particularly rare, especially in this size, making this piece a significant collector's item. The detailed craftsmanship reflects not only religious devotion but also the cultural richness of the time. The serene expression and posture of the Buddha convey tranquility and wisdom, resonating with the teachings of Buddhism that emphasize inner peace and enlightenment.

The mudra associated with this statue is Bhumisparsha, which symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the Earth to witness his right to attain Nirvana. This gesture represents the triumph of the spiritual quest over earthly temptations.

Originating from Thailand, this piece is not merely an object of art but also a historical testament to the rich heritage of Buddhist culture in Southeast Asia. The TL test confirming its age adds authenticity to its historical value, making it an essential addition for those interested in Buddhist art and history.
