The Antique Japanese Zushi Shrine is a remarkable example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, dating back to 1912 during the Meiji era. This exquisite shrine stands at 53 cm in height and is elegantly gilded with 24 karat gold. Its maker, Asako Shukei, was a renowned Buddha-carver in Kyoto, part of a lineage of mikoshi-makers that thrived from the late Muromachi Period until 2007. This historical context underscores the rich artistic heritage of Japan, where such pieces served both functional and spiritual purposes in Shinto and Buddhist traditions.

Inside the shrine, the stunning gold lacquer backdrop features a verdant green wooden mountain adorned with a cascading waterfall, offering a serene and contemplative scene. Surrounding this tranquil setting are twelve intricately carved boxwood figures representing various Buddhist and Shinto deities, each meticulously designed to convey spiritual significance and cultural lore.

The Zushi Shrine's dimensions of 28.7 cm in width and 21 cm in depth make it a captivating centerpiece for both collectors and spiritual practitioners. Its craftsmanship not only reflects the aesthetic values of its time but also serves as a link to Japan's deep-rooted spiritual traditions. This piece embodies a harmonious blend of art and devotion, making it a timeless addition to any collection.
