This exquisite Burmese alabaster Buddha statue, originating from Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), represents a significant piece of Southeast Asian art with deep spiritual heritage. Crafted in the 17th century, the statue stands at 86 cm in height, 46 cm in width, and 26 cm deep, with a total weight of 87.25 kg. Its elegant design is a testament to the artisanship of the Shan (Tai Yai) style, distinguished by its graceful forms and serene expressions.

The Bhumisparsha mudra depicted in the statue symbolizes the Buddha's moment of enlightenment, where He touches the earth to call upon it as a witness to His awakening. This gesture embodies the themes of grounding and the attainment of truth, making it a powerful representation of the Buddha's teachings.

Myanmar has a rich history of Buddhist practice that has influenced its culture and arts for centuries. The reverence for the Buddha is deeply rooted in the lives of the people, and statues like this one serve not only as decorative art but also as focal points for meditation and worship. This sophisticated piece encapsulates the spiritual essence and artistic excellence of a bygone era, inviting admiration and reflection in any space it inhabits.
