Description

This exquisite Burmese alabaster Buddha statue, measuring 98.5 cm in height, embodies the rich heritage of Burma (Myanmar), where Buddhism has been a dominant cultural element for centuries. Hailing from the 16th century, the statue displays traces of its original lacquer and fine 24-karat gilding, which enhance its majestic appearance and historical significance.

Crafted in the Ava style, known for its elegance and serene expressions, this statue reflects traditional Burmese artistry. The figure is depicted seated, exemplifying calmness and inner peace, which are central themes in Buddhist philosophy. The Bhumisparsha position, represented by one of the Buddha's hands touching the earth, symbolizes the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the earth to witness his spiritual awakening.

Throughout its history, Burma has been a melting pot of cultural influences, and this statue is a testament to the intricate artistry and spiritual devotion of its time. It not only serves as a striking decorative piece but also as a representation of a profound belief system that has shaped the lives of millions. The combination of alabaster, historical craftsmanship, and artistic tradition makes this statue a very special addition to any collection.
